As a child I was brought up reading and being read too, many tales of hero's; Beowulf, Lord of he Rings (all 5), and Mythology. Mythology struck me as the most interesting, it had everything from loves story's to epic battles. The characters were larger than life, cunning, and strong. Even when they didn't triumph against their foes, they won. Perhaps the most interesting tales was those of Norse origins. The god Odin was subject to mortal harm, he was a slave to fate no matter how he changed it. Although I do not remember the name of the story my favorite would have to be when Odin and his companions traveled to the giants stronghold. They faced four impossible challenges; to lift the world, to outrace time, to drink the ocean, and to wrestle death. They failed all of the challenges but managed to imprress the giants with their cunning and perseverance.
This story really taught me about the importance of the mind, despite their strength and skill the gods still could not complete the tasks. They were all seemingly simple tasks but the gods arrogance blinded them from seeing how to complete them. This taught me to try again but not the same way as the first time. If it didn't work once it wont work the second time.
